Two rail workers have shared their account of feeling “morally obliged” to rescue a starving and abandoned dog, subsequently taking the animal home, purchasing food, and even covering veterinary expenses. Molly, a 12-year-old boxer, was discovered near a train line in Blackpool on 26 October, appearing as though she “had not eaten for weeks” and “was covered in injuries,” according to the depot’s driver operations team leader. Scott Grimes stated that his team provided the dog with “warmth and affection when she needed it most” and collectively contributed funds to cover vet bills. His colleague, Jacob Peake, then took in the distressed pup with his girlfriend Nas, with the couple now considering making the arrangement permanent. Mr. Grimes further elaborated: “The team helped secure Molly, we offered her warmth and affection when she needed it the most.“It is heart-warming to work with people that have similar beliefs, as we all felt morally obliged to give Molly the love she needed.” Mr. Peake also expressed feeling obligated to assist Molly. He commented: “Fostering her just felt like the right thing to do. We’ve already got a pomeranian called Kiki but we’ve always wanted to give a home to a rescue,” adding that “Kiki has never got on with other dogs but she likes Molly, who is so laid back and relaxed.” Mr. Peake observed that Molly was now “coming a long way each day.” He explained: “At first, she would just eat and sleep all day but now her personality is starting to shine through,” and concluded, “Today was the first time she ran up to me wagging her tail.” Information regarding BBC Radio Lancashire content is available on Sounds, with updates from BBC Lancashire accessible on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
