Travelers have received advisories regarding ongoing railway service interruptions throughout the West Midlands region, as recovery operations persist following Storm Darragh. On Tuesday, the Cross City south line stayed shut between Birmingham New Street and Bromsgrove and Redditch, a consequence of fallen trees causing damage to overhead power lines. Network Rail announced that personnel were scheduled to access the tracks overnight on Tuesday to mend the cabling. Additionally, no train services are scheduled to operate from Shrewsbury to Swansea until the close of the day, and routes between Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford are also still suspended; both situations are attributable to storm-related damage. Beyond the interruptions resulting from the storm, services connecting Tamworth and Polesworth in Warwickshire continued to experience impacts from ongoing repairs to a compromised embankment, which was identified last Tuesday. Over the weekend, hundreds of trees fell throughout the region, propelled by the strong winds associated with Storm Darragh. A fatality occurred on Saturday when a tree struck a vehicle on Sutton Road in Erdington, Birmingham, resulting in the death of a man identified locally as Kher Hussain Shahin.
