A railway company has developed a low-alcohol beer as part of a campaign to enhance passenger safety during the Christmas period. Avanti West Coast collaborated with Birmingham Brewing Company to launch “Safety Thirst,” a 0.5% pale ale. This beverage will be available for purchase on trains, aiming to encourage responsible alcohol consumption among passengers. As part of the campaign, a choir comprising Avanti West Coast employees performed a song titled “Safety Thirst,” set to the melody of “Jingle Bells,” at Stafford station. The operator reported that rail-related incidents where intoxication is a potential factor increase by approximately 45% during the festive season. Dave Whitehouse, director of safety, security and environment at Avanti West Coast, stated: “This time of year, our network is busier and our staff are on hand to help everyone get to their destination safely.” He added: “The Safety Thirst campaign is a great reminder to drink responsibly to create a more enjoyable travel experience for everyone taking a journey with us as well as our colleagues.” Andy Milford, from Birmingham Brewing Company, commented that Christmas is a time for everyone to cherish being together with their loved ones. He further remarked: “We want to ensure that everyone gets home safely to be able to enjoy it to the fullest,”.
