Westmorland and Furness Council is developing plans to restore Penrith Castle Park, a community park, and is seeking public input for this initiative. The redevelopment is proceeding after the council secured government funding. Numerous community engagement activities are scheduled for the coming months, providing opportunities for individuals to offer their perspectives on the park, which encompasses Penrith Castle. Councillor Virginia Taylor affirmed the council’s dedication to “improving and shaping the park’s future for the next hundred years.” She further stated, “Everyone is invited to contribute their best ideas – residents and visitors, park users, adults and children, not to mention their dogs.” The council also indicated that it would engage in discussions regarding the proposed changes with the town council, local sports clubs, and heritage groups. The project’s financing is sourced from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, with architectural firm Architects Plus and landscaping company Layer.studio contracted to produce the designs. Feedback collected on the park will be utilized to formulate a business case for the Penrith Castle Park Restoration and Improvement Project. This business case is crucial for unlocking additional financial support from the Borderlands Place Programme. Consultation events are planned for 18 December at Penrith Library and Penrith Leisure Centre, and for 18 January at Castle Park Bowls Pavilion and Penrith Library.
