Road users and local residents will have the chance to learn more about a project focused on resurfacing a section of the A1 in Nottinghamshire. National Highways is carrying out the resurfacing work on the road between the A57/A614 at Apleyhead, near Retford, and the A17/A46 at Newark. Some operations are already underway, involving overnight lane and slip road closures. However, specific sections of the carriageway will require overnight shutdowns from January 6 until May 23. National Highways will conduct public information events regarding the project on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. The work is scheduled to be performed in stages on weekdays between 20:00 GMT and 06:00, commencing with southbound closures before northbound closures begin in March. Diversion routes will be implemented during the work, which will also include the replacement of high friction surfacing, road markings, and road studs where necessary. Project manager Gabriella Stone stated that full closures are required “to ensure the safety of workers”. She added: “The condition of the road is deteriorating so it is important that we carry out this essential maintenance to ensure safety and improve the quality of journeys for people travelling along this route.” The first public information event is set for Monday at A1 Markham Moor Services, located on the northbound carriageway near Retford. Additional events will take place on Tuesday at Brownhills Motorhomes in Newark and on Wednesday at A1 Moto Blyth Services. All three events are scheduled to run from 10:00 to 16:00.
