A nest box designed for a pair of peregrine falcons may be installed on the clock tower of Bradford City Hall. A spokesperson for Bradford Council indicated that the new box is anticipated to encourage the birds to breed. The pair has been consistently observed feeding and interacting at the site, but successful breeding has not yet occurred. Danny Jackson, the council’s countryside service manager, commented: “We also hope to be able to install CCTV cameras so that people from across the world can follow their progress.” A planning application has been submitted to guarantee that the installation will not negatively impact the Grade I-listed building. Mr. Jackson further stated that the box would “help this magnificent pair of birds with their breeding.” This project is an element of the Bradford Peregrine Trail Project, which receives funding from Natural England and is collaboratively run by the Bradford Urban Wildlife Group, Bradford Peregrines, and Bradford Council. Nest boxes have already been established at Lister’s Mill in Manningham and Damart Mill in Bingley. Paul Redmond, chair of the Bradford Urban Wildlife Group, described the most recent proposals as an “exciting step” for the initiative. He noted, “Our beautiful landmark buildings have brought these birds into Bradford’s urban environment,” and added, “I hope that everyone takes the opportunity to watch these birds which often go unnoticed, living high up above us.”
