A proposal has been submitted for a new development comprising 220 residences and a retail outlet on a parcel of land located in north Devon. This 27-acre (11-hectare) site is positioned to the north of Old Bideford Road in Barnstaple. Furthermore, it adjoins the Roundswell boundary and the recently completed Glenwood Farm development. Hallam Land, the developer, stated that its proposed plans constitute a logical expansion of Roundswell and are intended to address a significant demand for housing. According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, a company spokesperson indicated that 30% of these residential units would be designated as affordable housing. The submitted application incorporates improved pedestrian and cycling pathways designed to link the proposed shop with other developments in the vicinity. Additionally, the plans feature a green space, an orchard, and allotments, alongside a primary street lined with trees offering vistas of the Taw Estuary and incorporating wildlife corridors surrounding the property. Members of the public are invited to submit their feedback to North Devon Council by 27 November.
