An application has been lodged with the city council to transform a former nightclub building located in Leicester city centre into residential flats. The three-storey structure on New Bond Street, which previously housed Lily’s Live Lounge, is the focus of this proposal, seeking to modify its purpose and undertake both internal and external renovations. Should the proposal gain approval, the property would be redeveloped to create five independent flats. The applicant, Nigel Reeves Planning and Urban Design, had previously submitted an application for the site’s conversion in October 2023, but subsequently withdrew it following recommendations from planning officers. Earlier concerns had been expressed regarding the potential removal of a commercial presence at street level on the building’s ground floor, a site situated directly across from the Highcross shopping centre. This most recent application incorporates a reduction in the number of proposed flats, from an initial eight to five, and includes the preservation of the existing shop front on the currently unoccupied building. Additionally, the plans involve the installation of new windows and rooflights, alongside the removal of an external staircase at the rear. The public is invited to submit comments on the proposed development until 26 November, with Leicester City Council anticipating a decision on the application by the close of December.
