A proposal has been put forward for an outdoor sauna, capable of accommodating up to eight individuals, to be located on the beach of a coastal resort for winter use. Weymouth Town Council intends to position this wood-fired sauna close to the pier bandstand, directly across from the Prince Regent Hotel within Weymouth. Should the proposal receive approval, the sauna would be offered for rental to either individuals or groups during the period spanning November through February. The formal planning submission to Dorset Council outlines a structure characterized as a shepherd-hut style “wild sauna unit and ancillary shed”. Revive Wild Sauna would operate this facility, stating in their application that significantly reduced-price sessions would be provided on weekdays to assist local community organizations, including the Blue Tits sea swimming group. The design of the sauna is expected to resemble a unit the company currently operates at Bowleaze Cove, featuring a window with glass offering vistas of the sea. Similar sauna installations have also been established at other coastal destinations within Dorset, such as Swanage and Seatown. In the summer months, a different structure occupies the intended location, serving disabled swimmers. Public feedback and observations regarding this application are invited for submission until November 22.
