A proposal has been submitted for the construction of a contemporary apartment building on a vacant site located along a coastal promenade. 8G Architects, a company, intends to acquire the property situated on Ramsey’s Mooragh Promenade with the aim of erecting a six-story structure comprising 12 residential units. These residences, positioned on a parcel of land between North Shore Road and Hope Street, are planned to feature two and three bedrooms, along with dedicated parking facilities. Gareth Roberts, the applicant, stated that the project presents a “perfect opportunity to infill a gap in the row of old Victorian apartments” on the “under-used land” within the northern town. Mr. Roberts indicated a significant demand for residential properties in that specific area of Ramsey, noting that any apartments listed for sale in the vicinity of Moorgah Promenade were being “snapped up”. Furthermore, he pointed out that current Victorian-era apartments along the promenade frequently experience problems with dampness and elevated operational expenses. A planning statement submitted by the company clarified that the intention was “not a case of simply trying to recreate the architecture” of the adjacent structures, but instead to “fuse the best elements of 19th Century proportion and scale with a modern sensibility”. The application further stated, “‘Overall, it is considered that the design proposed represents a modern interpretation of Victorian architecture, reflecting the detailing and the vertical proportions of the terraces in the along the Promenade.”
