A formal planning application has been lodged for the construction of a new Lidl supermarket within a city retail park. Urban Edge Architecture has submitted a request to replace Smyths Toys and HomeSense at the Churchill Way West Retail Park in Salisbury, Wiltshire. The submission to Wiltshire Council also includes a proposal to modify the shared car park situated adjacent to the two units. Developers anticipate that the construction project will generate up to 50 new employment positions. The planning documentation, submitted on behalf of Schroders Real Estate Investment Management, indicates that the two retailers currently occupying the proposed location are scheduled to depart in early 2025. It further specifies that the Lidl store would occupy a combined unit to “secure its long-term occupation”. A decision date regarding this application has not yet been determined.
