Police have reported that a house and a van sustained damage during an arson attack in north Belfast. The event occurred on Gainsborough Drive just before 20:00 GMT on Saturday. During the assault, the front door of a residence and a van parked on the street outside the property were deliberately set ablaze. Although the owner and a neighbor successfully extinguished both fires, the house’s front door and the van were left extensively damaged. In a separate occurrence, a woman and children in Greenisland were left “extremely distressed” after their home was burgled by masked men who claimed to represent a paramilitary organization. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed that this burglary was reported in Fortfield Manor on Saturday, after 20:00 BST. Four masked men, dressed in dark clothing, gained entry to the house via the back door and instructed the woman and three children to go into the living room. The men then searched the house for approximately half an hour before departing with jewellery and cash. Police stated that the woman and children did not suffer any physical injuries. Additionally, a delivery driver was assaulted in County Tyrone, according to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI). The driver’s van was stopped by two masked men, one of whom was believed to be carrying a firearm, in Carrickmore on Sunday, between 05:00 GMT and 05:30 GMT. The driver, a man in his 40s, was forcibly removed from the vehicle and attacked by the two men on Main Street. Before leaving the scene, the two masked men shattered the van’s windows. The victim suffered a concussion and was transported to the hospital for medical attention. The PSNI has issued an appeal for anyone with information or footage related to these incidents to come forward. Copyright 2024 BBC. All rights reserved.
