A primary school, which had been compelled to close its doors on Wednesday morning after personnel detected an “unusual smell” upon their arrival, has since resumed operations. Field Court Junior Academy (FCJ), located in Quedgeley, Gloucester, instructed parents to retain their children at home, citing health and safety concerns. Subsequently, contractors identified that a seized motor within one of the school’s convector heaters was the source of a burning odor that had spread throughout the premises. According to the school, there was no fire hazard because the heater had short-circuited. FCJ announced via a post on its Facebook page that the motor has since been taken out for repair. “Sincere thanks for your understanding and patience this morning…We would always rather be cautious when it comes to your children’s safety,” the post stated. The academy further communicated that parents were now permitted to bring their children to school, but clarified that any absences would be authorized if alternative childcare arrangements had already been made. It also confirmed that lunch service would proceed as usual, and scheduled show performances would take place as planned. For updates, follow BBC Gloucestershire on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
