The clean-up operation has commenced at a miniature golf course that was “absolutely covered” in sand, which was deposited by Storm Darragh. Frosty Penguins Putting Adventure experienced inundation after Majuba Beach in Redcar was severely impacted by extreme weather conditions over the weekend. Co-director Andrew Smith commented, stating: “We are a frosty, ice-cave theme, not a desert theme which we’re resembling at the minute.” Staff from Redcar and Cleveland Council, along with volunteers, have begun utilizing shovels and diggers to clear the course, aiming for completion before the busy Christmas week. Mr. Smith informed BBC Radio Tees that the course had been “absolutely covered, there’s nowhere that hasn’t been affected by it”. He estimated that approximately 25 tonnes of sand had been spread across the attraction during the stormy conditions. “It’s two feet to three feet deep where it’s drifted,” he noted. The local authority supplied a mini-digger to aid in the clearing effort. Mr. Smith further mentioned that a member of the public suggested they seek volunteer assistance after discovering that quotes from professional companies were not financially viable. Volunteers have been requested to attend on Thursday and Friday, with the incentive of a hot drink for their participation. “It’s a good cardio workout,” Mr. Smith remarked. Mr. Smith expressed being heartened by the offers of help, including from students at Middlesbrough College who planned to come by. The objective is to have the course cleared by the upcoming weekend. Mr. Smith explained, “It’s a crucial trading period over Christmas as we go into the quieter months of January and February.” For updates, follow BBC Tees on X, Facebook, Nextdoor, and Instagram.
