The Highland Council has indicated that work on the Portree Link Road on Skye might commence in May of the coming year. This proposed road aims to alleviate traffic congestion within Portree’s town centre and facilitate the availability of land for future residential projects. The necessity for this road has been recognized for several years, and it has been incorporated into a local development plan since 2019. According to a report presented to councillors, officials estimated the route’s cost at £1.6m and its construction duration at 25 weeks. The local authority had previously anticipated the road’s construction in 2022. The road is designed to connect the A87 and A855, identified as two vital transportation arteries in north Skye. The Highland Council stated that the completion of the link road would also enable residential construction on the northern side of Portree. The local authority indicated that financial contributions from developers would contribute to covering the project’s expenses.
