A port located in Kent is slated for a £30 million capital injection to construct an additional berth, addressing an increasing need for capacity. Peel Ports Group is developing a new berth and a floating pontoon to enhance the Port of Sheerness’s capability to manage cargo. Construction work on-site is scheduled to commence in March 2025, with the new docking facility anticipated to become operational by the summer. These upcoming facilities are designed to accommodate roll-on/roll-off vessels arriving at the port, transporting various goods including vehicles, paper reels, timber, construction machinery, and building materials. The group reports that approximately 300,000 vehicles are processed at the site annually. Peel Ports Group further stated: “The development will support the continued growth of its [the port’s] customers such as Volkswagen and CEVA, who use Sheerness as the primary location for their southern UK operations.”
