States police have announced that officers will increase patrols in St Helier and conduct road checks across Jersey during the Christmas period. This heightened police presence aims to combat drink-driving, following the recording of 111 “drunk in charge” (DIC) offences this year up until 15 October. The force also noted that 118 DIC incidents were registered in 2023. Inspector Lawrence Courtness emphasized that police “must continue to reiterate the message that getting behind the wheel after consuming alcohol is not acceptable.” He further stated: “Alcohol affects everybody’s ability to drive safely and it simply isn’t worth the risk. Plan ahead, get a lift, leave your car overnight, or catch the bus.” These additional patrols, involving both regular officers and honorary police colleagues, are scheduled for December. Their objective is to apprehend motorists who have consumed alcohol and are driving, whether on the same day or the following morning, officers confirmed. The States of Jersey Police also issued a reminder for the public to consume alcohol safely and responsibly. Inspector David Turnbull commented: “This festive season, let’s make an extra effort to look out for each other. If you see someone in distress or in need of assistance, offer help or contact us,. It could make a significant difference in ensuring that individual has a safe and joyous holiday.” Post navigation 92-Year-Old Man Charged in Decades-Old Rape and Murder Case Man Sentenced to Nine Years for Paying for Live-Streamed Child Abuse
