An individual posing as a police officer defrauded an elderly woman, obtaining tens of thousands of pounds. West Yorkshire Police released an image of a man sought for questioning regarding this incident, which occurred in Huddersfield during November. The victim received an unsolicited call and was led to believe she was communicating with a police officer conducting a financial fraud investigation, subsequently providing her bank details. She later encountered the perpetrator in person as part of the deception. Detective Constable Callum Wallace characterized the crime as a “despicable offence”. The individual police are seeking is described as Asian, approximately 6ft tall, with a stocky physique and dark curly hair. He is known to visit Manchester city centre, Leeds city centre, and the Trafford Centre in Manchester. DC Wallace stated that officers are “progressing a number of lines of inquiry” and urged anyone who can assist police in identifying the man shown in the image to make contact. He further advised, “Sadly these scams do occur and the persons can be practiced liars. If you receive such a call do not give the caller any personal financial details and hang up.”
