Police are searching for six men following an incident where two individuals entered a restaurant and doused four others with a liquid, prompting concerns it might be corrosive. Furniture was also thrown by the men inside the Cardiff Bay restaurant, before all six individuals departed the location. South Wales Police suspect the event at Las Iguanas on Wednesday night was a “targeted attack,” stemming from a prior dispute involving the six men. Emergency services responded to the Mermaid Quay area, which was subsequently secured, and the restaurant ceased operations. Det Insp Phil Marchant stated, “Four men were sitting in the restaurant when two other men ran into the restaurant and threw a substance at them.” He further detailed, “Items of furniture were also picked up and thrown.” Marchant also noted, “Both the four male victims and the two male suspects then ran out of the restaurant.” He confirmed that no injuries have been reported and that “at this time the liquid is not believed to have been harmful.” He explained that it is understood that around 18:15, the two groups “had previously had an altercation in another part of Mermaid Quay… and therefore believe this to be a targeted attack.” Authorities are working to identify and locate all six men involved. They are also appealing for anyone who was present at Las Iguanas, or in the vicinity of the restaurant in Tacoma Square between 18:15 and 20:30 GMT, or possesses additional information, to come forward. Las Iguanas remained shut throughout Thursday morning. A spokesperson for Mermaid Quay confirmed that emergency services were conducting inquiries. The spokesperson added, “This incident has now ended, and is under active investigation. Due to this we are unable to comment any further.”
