Authorities are searching for an individual who was released from custody under licence conditions, following the removal of his GPS tracking device. Cameron Evans, aged 32, had been discharged from HMP Onley in September through an early release program, but has since violated the terms of his licence. His sentencing occurred at Oxford Crown Court in March, where he received a conviction for several assault charges and for carrying a knife. Thames Valley Police indicated that he is known to frequent the areas of Abingdon and Drayton, advising the public not to approach him if sighted, but to contact 999 immediately. Police further stated that Evans’s licence has been rescinded, and he has been ordered back into custody due to removing his tag and missing scheduled appointments. His description includes being white, approximately 5ft 5ins in height, having a slim physique, blue eyes, and shaved brown hair. Detective Constable Michael Hopcroft, the investigating officer, commented: “Cameron Evans was released from HMP Onley on licence with strict conditions and a GPS tag to manage his reintegration into the general public.” He continued: “Evans has made the decision to breach these conditions and remove his GPS tag.” Hopcroft added: “We are appealing for the public’s help in locating Evans to bring him back to custody.” Evans, who has no permanent address, had admitted guilt to two charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, one count of assault by beating, and possession of a knife. He received a two-year prison sentence. The BBC comprehends that his release occurred on 10 September, alongside approximately 1,700 other inmates. By 30 September, he would have completed 50% of his sentence. Individuals who had completed 40% of their sentences qualified for the early release program. A spokesperson for HM Prison and Probation Service stated: “Offenders released on licence are subject to strict conditions and we do not hesitate to recall them to prison if they break the rules.” For updates, BBC Oxfordshire can be followed on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), or Instagram.
