Police have reported that attempts to capture a loose emu are “being scuppered” by individuals pursuing it “in 4x4s”. The sizable bird has been frequently observed in the vicinity of Spilsby over recent weeks; however, Lincolnshire Police indicated that its escape time and origin remain unknown. The National Exotics Animal Rescue Service (NEARS) was enlisted for its capture, but its endeavors have been obstructed by members of the public, according to a Facebook statement from the Boston area police team. Both NEARS and the police force issued a caution to the public, advising against approaching or pursuing the animal during the ongoing rescue operation. NEARS stated that such actions “could cause the current attempts to recapture him or her to fail” and cautioned that the bird might be frightened into a proximate road. The Facebook post further urged: “Please leave this to us and our contacts to ensure the best outcome for this beautiful animal.” Lincolnshire Police requested that anyone possessing information or having sighted the emu should reach out to NEARS through Facebook.
