Law enforcement officials have released an e-fit image in connection with a renewed public appeal to identify an individual discovered deceased in a canal fourteen years prior. The individual’s remains were located in the Fazeley Canal, situated in Erdington, Birmingham, around 08:00 GMT on November 4, 2010. Despite comprehensive investigations, his identity remained unknown, and West Midlands Police stated that this case has become one of the most protracted for its Unresolved Missing Persons Investigation Team. A post-mortem examination conducted at that time determined that the man’s death was due to drowning, and an inquest was held to facilitate his burial. Detective Constable Darryl Towle commented: “Our aim is always to find out who these people are to help them, their families and friends, find peace.” The individual was estimated to be in his fifties and was dressed in a dark-colored jumper featuring white horizontal stripes, black shoes with Velcro closures, and brown socks. His description also included a height of 5ft 7in, stubble, and greying brown hair reaching collar-length. “He had no identification on him, he did not match the description of any missing people and he has never been reported missing,” Detective Constable Towle further stated. “Fourteen years on we’re still determined to find out who he was and trace any family or friends.” Individuals who recognize the man are urged to contact West Midlands Police.
