Law enforcement officials reported that four officers sustained assaults and a vehicle incurred damage during the dispersal of an “unlicensed music event” in Bristol on Saturday evening. Avon and Somerset Police stated that their personnel encountered “completely unacceptable” conduct, which included being spat upon, having projectiles hurled at them, and one officer being seized by their hair. Musical equipment was confiscated, and two individuals were apprehended at the gathering, which occurred on Willway Street in Bedminster. A female aged 28 and a 16-year-old male were taken into custody on suspicion of assaulting an emergency services worker. A spokesperson for the police force indicated that initial notifications about the event were received at 22:19 GMT on Saturday, and responding officers discovered approximately 200 to 250 individuals assembled at the location. Neighbourhood Chief Inspector Keith Smith commented: “We recognise the significant impact these events can have on people living in the surrounding area and we responded quickly – and with significant resources – to minimise this.” He further stated: “Some of the behaviour officers were confronted with was completely unacceptable. Officers were punched, spat at, had objects thrown at them and one was grabbed by her hair causing bruising. Welfare support is in place for them.” Chief Inspector Smith concluded: “Despite the aggression they faced, officers responded with utmost professionalism and were able to limit the impact on local residents.” The police force confirmed that the woman who was arrested has since been granted police bail, while the boy has been released under investigation.
