A vehicle struck two police officers and a recently detained individual, resulting in their hospitalization. The incident occurred on Tuesday around 16:37 GMT when three officers responded to a disturbance report in Garners Field, Great Bourton, located near Banbury. A 49-year-old man was apprehended at the scene on suspicion of affray, possessing an offensive weapon in a public area, and making threats to kill. Subsequent to the arrest, a vehicle, which was not involved in the initial disturbance, collided with two of the officers and the suspect. One of the officers has since been released from the hospital, and the driver of the vehicle involved in the collision was not taken into custody. Thames Valley Police stated that a mandatory referral was made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to the injury sustained by a member of the public. Detective Sergeant Matt Richardson commented: “This is a truly shocking incident and our thoughts are with all those involved and those close to them.” He added: “We believe a member of the public stopped their vehicle at the scene shortly before the collision took place. If this could be you, please get in touch with us.” Det Sgt Richardson further stated that authorities are seeking information from anyone who observed a man with a backpack in the vicinity earlier that day, and also from individuals possessing dashcam footage of the collision.
