Law enforcement agencies have commenced their seasonal initiative, aimed at reducing criminal activity and facilitating a “peaceful” Christmas season for the public. “Operation Dasher” has been reinstated in Swindon, featuring increased visible patrols throughout the town center and at retail sites outside the main urban area. This effort will concentrate on daytime commercial activities and prolonged evening operating hours. Wiltshire Police stated that the heightened activity during the Christmas season leads to a greater number of people in public spaces, consequently elevating the potential for crime and anti-social conduct. Sgt Claire Davidson, whose responsibilities cover Swindon Central South, expressed the objective for residents to “feel safe” during December. The police force will receive assistance from Community Street Wardens, Swindon Borough Council CCTV operators, Pubwatch, and retail security personnel. Law enforcement officers are scheduled to convene daily with their partners to exchange intelligence and other pertinent details, which will then be distributed to local enterprises and stores. PC Paul Bezzant commented: “The busy Christmas period can provide an increased opportunity for criminals or for anti-social behaviour to be a greater impact to the community.“This operation is about combating these risks, making sure our communities feel safe to shop, visit and work in the areas.” He further stated that Swindon Police possesses “a wealth of committed community partners” who “have become the eyes and ears,” enabling the sharing of information and collaborative efforts to maintain public safety. He concluded, “We will continue to work hard with them to ensure everyone can enjoy a peaceful festive period.” For updates, follow BBC Wiltshire on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
