A murder investigation has commenced following the death of a woman in a hit-and-run collision within a Derbyshire village. Police reported that officers were dispatched to Batley Lane in Pleasley at 20:00 GMT on Tuesday. According to authorities, a dark-coloured 4×4 vehicle pursued two e-bikes before “ramming” one of them, causing both the rider and passenger to fall off, after which the vehicle drove away. A 25-year-old woman, who was the passenger on the e-bike, died at the scene, while the rider, a man in his 20s, was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. Officers stated that a man and a woman, both in their 30s and originating from the Skegby area of Nottinghamshire, have been arrested in connection with the incident and remain in police custody. Derbyshire Police appealed for information from anyone who may have seen the vehicle – believed to be a Land Rover Discovery manufactured between 2004 and 2009 – in and around the Pleasley area before the crash. The police force added that the vehicle was last observed on Rowthorne Lane, where it turned right onto the A617 in the direction of New Houghton. Det Ch Insp Claudia Musson commented: “This is an understandably shocking incident that has left a family grieving the loss of a young woman.” She further noted that “A team of detectives have been working non-stop since the incident took place and have generated significant lines of inquiry.”
