A police investigation has been initiated following the death of a man in Birmingham, who is suspected of having consumed drugs at a Halloween-themed club night. West Midlands Police reported that three individuals were transported to the hospital on Saturday after attending an event at The Forum, located on Dale End. The police also confirmed that the venue’s operating licence has been suspended. As part of the ongoing inquiries, Bradley Kay, a 20-year-old resident of Leicestershire, has been charged with an offence related to the supply of Class A drugs. A spokesperson representing Forum Birmingham conveyed the venue’s devastation over the death and stated that they are collaborating with authorities to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident. Mr. Kay, whose address is Main Street, Higham on the Hill, appeared before magistrates in Coventry on Tuesday and was subsequently remanded into custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for 28 November at Warwick Crown Court. West Midlands Police confirmed that the family of the deceased man has been notified and is in communication with the officers conducting the investigation. A police statement included the remark: “Our thoughts remain firmly with them at this difficult time.” The statement also noted: “Two other men, aged 20, were also treated at hospital but have since been discharged.” Forum reported that approximately 2,800 individuals attended the DnB Allstars Halloween 360° event. In a separate statement, the venue further expressed: “Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the family and friends of a man who we were devastated to learn passed away in hospital on Saturday.” The statement continued: “He became unwell in the venue and was helped by our medical team before being taken to hospital by ambulance.” It concluded: “We have all been deeply affected by this tragedy as, we know, have many in our wider community.” Police indicated that detectives notified Birmingham City Council, the licensing authority, about the incident due to suspicions that the venue might have operated with an insufficient search policy. The venue stated its acceptance of the council’s decision to suspend its licence, adding: “while we complete this process and we are committed to putting in place any necessary additional measures”. A spokesperson further mentioned that they would collaborate with the local authority concerning the events to ensure a safe environment for customers, “as we have done over the last three years”. Forum also stated that organizers of events affected by this situation would directly contact ticket holders to provide information regarding refunds or updated event details. Police confirmed that a post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place in due course, and officers are in communication with the area coroner.
