Authorities in Birmingham have stated that action will be taken after groups deployed fireworks in streets and from structures during public disturbances. A live video, which reportedly depicted a hooded individual attired as Darth Vader discharging fireworks in the Aston district on Wednesday, has garnered thousands of views. The video was accompanied by the comment: “Birmingham looking like a scene from Star Wars”. Furthermore, law enforcement personnel in the city centre were subjected to fireworks attacks in the period leading up to Halloween, prompting the implementation of a dispersal order. The police force confirmed that its inquiries are ongoing, and two adolescents have been apprehended and subsequently released on bail. Officers indicated that certain individuals had directed fireworks towards police personnel and their vehicles amidst the disturbances. A spokesperson for West Midlands Police stated: “We are aware of videos shared on social media, and we are reviewing footage including CCTV.” The spokesman added: “We won’t tolerate such appalling behaviour which we know is frightening for people and puts them at risk of harm. We will seek to prosecute anyone involved.” Readers can find BBC Birmingham on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X, and Instagram. This content is copyrighted by BBC, 2024. All rights are reserved.
