Police have commenced an operation to locate a diver reported missing in Scapa Flow, a body of water situated in Orkney. HM Coastguard stated that the diver’s disappearance was reported shortly after 14:30 on Wednesday, leading to the immediate launch of a search. This extensive search involved two coastguard helicopters, an additional aircraft, rescue teams from Kirkwall, Hoy, and St Margaret’s, as well as lifeboats dispatched from Longhope and Thurso, all systematically covering the area. The coastguard’s involvement in the search efforts concluded just after 03:00, however, police personnel are still actively searching the vicinity. An Orkney Islands Council spokesperson provided a statement: “Our tug fleet was involved yesterday afternoon and into the early hours of this morning in a search for a missing diver. “As reported, that search was stood down at 03:00 and sadly the diver has not been found.” “As the dive was being conducted in the Harbour Authority area, we will conduct our own investigation into this incident.” “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the diver at this difficult time.”
