Police have identified a woman whose remains were discovered within a car’s boot. The individual is Harshita Brella, aged 24, of Corby, Northamptonshire. Officers located her in a vehicle on Brisbane Road, Ilford, east London, during the early hours of Thursday. Northamptonshire Police received a report on Wednesday expressing concerns for Ms Brella’s well-being. This report ultimately resulted in the finding of her body and the initiation of a murder inquiry. Detective Chief Inspector Johnny Campbell, representing the East Midlands Special Operations Major Crime Unit (EMSOU), stated: “Although we believe Harshita was attacked by someone known to her, we are keeping an open mind.” Following the welfare call, Northamptonshire Police visited Ms Brella’s residence at Skegness Walk, Corby. Upon receiving no response, officers initiated a missing person investigation, with subsequent inquiries culminating in the discovery of her body. Detective Chief Inspector Campbell commented: “She was a young woman in her early 20s with her whole life ahead of her and it is absolutely tragic that her life has been cut short in this way.“Investigators from EMSOU and Northamptonshire Police are engaged in continuous efforts to ascertain the specifics surrounding her death, including its precise location and timeline.“Although we believe Harshita was attacked by someone known to her, we are keeping an open mind, and would appeal to anyone who knew her to contact us with any relevant information they may have.” The police force indicated its belief that there is no broader danger to the public, though additional patrols will be conducted in Corby. Northamptonshire Police further stated that a mandatory referral has been submitted to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, owing to prior interactions between the force and Ms Brella.
