Police investigating the death of a newborn baby have distributed over 1,000 flyers in an effort to gather information regarding the circumstances under which her remains were found in a field. The infant, who remains unidentified and has been named Baby Ava by officers from Greater Manchester Police (GMP), was located by a dog walker in Little Hulton, Salford, on 20 November. One month after the discovery, the police force stated that Ava’s mother and her cause of death are still unknown. The force expressed gratitude to members of the public who offered tributes, including teddy bears and toys, noting that these items have since been cleaned and given to local charities and care homes. The discovery of Baby Ava occurred in a field, where she was found wrapped in pink fabric. This location is situated near a road layby and warehouses, in proximity to two junctions of the M61. The police force indicated that it is currently awaiting the outcomes of various specialist examinations designed to determine her cause of death and the duration she spent in the field prior to her discovery. Detective Chief Inspector Charlotte Whalley, a member of the force’s major incident team, confirmed that their objective is to ascertain the circumstances that led to Ava’s separation from her mother. Det Ch Insp Whalley further stated, “Our determination to get answers for Ava is unrelenting and will continue throughout the festive period and beyond.” She added, “We ask anyone who may have information which could help us, no matter how small, to come forward to us, as this may provide the key to unlocking the investigation.”
