Law enforcement personnel conducting a search at a landfill site, linked to a murder inquiry, are concentrating their efforts on “a specific 5,000 sq m (16,400 sq ft) area.” Cumali Turhan, aged 45, was last known to be alive after departing a pub situated on Rainsford Road in Chelmsford, just past midnight on November 19. Forensic officers from Essex Police have been active at the landfill location since November 27. Investigators hold the belief that Mr. Turhan is deceased and that his remains were placed into a refuse container. Ciprian Ilie, 44 years old and without a permanent residence, faces charges of aiding an offender and obstructing the proper and legal burial of a body. His court appearance is scheduled for December 23. Authorities are additionally seeking to locate a second individual in relation to their ongoing murder investigation, whom they suspect has departed the country. A spokesperson for Essex Police stated that forensic personnel are “continuing their detailed and methodical search of a specific 5,000 sq m (16,400 sq ft) area.” The spokesperson added that officers were “working seven days a week in a very challenging environment,” notwithstanding “the recent adverse weather conditions.” The police force also extended gratitude to the proprietors of the site. “This painstaking activity remains in the same identified area and it will take time as we work to find answers for Cumali’s family,” according to Essex Police.
