Plymouth Music Zone Averts Closure Following Funding Influx

An award-winning community music charity, which was facing the threat of closure, has received a temporary reprieve due to a recent boost in funding. Plymouth Music Zone (PMZ) operates a music education centre in the city, providing access to instruments and musicians for individuals of all ages and abilities. Earlier this month, staff members had indicated that covering operational expenses had become progressively challenging, cautioning that the organization would be forced to cease operations after 25 years unless a financial solution was found. However, the charity announced its ability to continue operating, at least for the time being, attributing this to “public support, donations and ongoing savings.” In a joint statement, Chris Hunt, chair of trustees and the PMZ board, and Karl Meyer, music programme director, and the PMZ staff, characterized the received support as “astonishing.” They further stated that contributions gathered through an appeal were “incredibly humbling.” “From all of us here at PMZ we wanted to say a massive thank you to our people, communities, stakeholders and supporters for reminding us just how much music, creativity and PMZ means to you. “You are truly the embodiment of Music Making a Difference.” “Our hard work continues.
