Emergency services are addressing a fire at a garage located in Plymouth, which has led to the evacuation of some residents from adjacent properties. Devon and Cornwall Police reported that their officers were dispatched to the incident on Belmont Street around 09:40 GMT. Fire crews stated their efforts were concentrated on containing the blaze, and residents in the vicinity had received advice to keep their doors and windows closed as a precautionary measure. It was confirmed that no individuals were present inside the garage when the incident occurred. According to police, the Highways Agency was present at the location, managing a blend of oil and water that was impeding a portion of the adjacent Kings Street. A BBC reporter observing the scene noted that crews had established containment barriers to prevent oil from entering the drainage system. Sgt Steve Dykes confirmed that residents situated near the incident site had been moved from their residences as a preventative step during the ongoing operations. He stated: “There’s no risk, we’ve had a joint emergency meeting and there’s no threat to other properties.” He added, “People hopefully can come back to their properties within an hour.” Sgt Dykes concluded by saying, “I just want to thank everybody for their cooperation, the local community has been good.”
