Wayne Rooney, who has overseen five victories and eight defeats across his 17 matches at the helm of Plymouth Argyle, asserts that a documentary chronicling his time with the club will not divert its focus. The former England captain, serving as the Pilgrims’ head coach since May, is the central figure of the series, which is presently being produced. Plymouth joins a growing list of football teams, including Wrexham, Sunderland, and Manchester City, to be the subject of a behind-the-scenes documentary. Speaking to BBC Radio Devon, Rooney stated, “It has to be at the right times and anything which we feel could affect players on a match day, the access won’t be there.” He further elaborated, “I think it happens nowadays anyway at most football clubs – they have their own internal cameras almost everywhere, so I don’t think it’s any different for the players or a shock for the players to have cameras round.” Rooney concluded, “I think once they’ll get used it it’s not an issue.” The specific platform or television channel that will broadcast the series remains undisclosed, though Rooney mentioned that “big brands looking to take it” are interested. He believes the production will offer advantages to the club in terms of both visibility and financial gain. Prior to Friday’s Championship match versus Watford, he commented, “I think for the football club financially it will help, which is really important for us where we’re at.” He also noted the fan appeal, adding, “But also from a fans point of view – if I’m a fan of the football club I’d be really intrigued to watch.” Rooney summarized the decision-making process, stating, “We had to take everything into account but we felt the positives outweighed the negatives.”
