Authorities are investigating a pair of arson incidents that resulted in the destruction of children’s play equipment across two parks in Hull. Fire crews responded to Alderman Kneeshaw Park on Valiant Drive around 19:30 GMT on Sunday, where a climbing frame had been set on fire. Later that same night, a fire engine was dispatched to Bellfield Park, located nearby, to put out burning play structures. Humberside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that no injuries were reported from either of the two occurrences. Humberside Police stated that they are examining CCTV footage in an effort to identify those responsible. Insp Jo Harvey commented: “Arson is not only a selfish act, it can also be incredibly dangerous and I would like to offer my reassurance to the local community that we remain committed to tackling such crimes.“Families and children should be able to enjoy their local parks without disruption and risk to safety, and it is totally unacceptable for these play parks to be damaged by individuals intent on causing harm.” The police force announced an increase in patrols within the affected area and requested that anyone with information or concerns regarding anti-social behaviour contact them.
