Proposals have been lodged with Doncaster Council for the transformation of a quarry site into a private lakeside holiday destination. Previous approvals had been granted for Grange Quarry in Finningley to be converted into public fishing lakes once operations at the location conclude in 2029. These latest proposals suggest a reduction in the number of lakes, which would then be privatized, alongside the construction of 100 holiday lodges distributed across the area. North Lincs Property, the applicant, stated its intention to establish a “quiet retreat” focused on nature. As reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the application indicates that the lakes’ primary purpose would be biodiversity enhancement, rather than being stocked mainly for fishing. Approximately 200 visitor parking spaces are planned, with access via the current crossroads on Bank End Road, and no new road construction is anticipated. A supporting statement accompanying the application characterized the initiative as “a positive addition supporting biodiversity and providing economic growth to this rural area”.
