A building previously occupied by an estate agency on a village’s main street is slated for transformation into a wine bar and bookshop. Huntingdonshire District Council has granted approval for a change of use at the Grade II-listed property located in Somersham, Cambridgeshire. The applicant, Natalie Flower, who intends to host cheese tastings, book readings, and book clubs, indicated that the establishment is expected to generate a minimum of two jobs, with potential for additional part-time positions. Planning officers had recommended the approval of this change, subject to specific restrictions on operating hours and the use of amplified music. The officers also specified that glass disposal into external bins outside the premises is prohibited between 21:00 and 08:00 GMT, as reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service. Ms Flower stated that the proposals are anticipated to “revitalise” the listed building and also “contribute to the local economy.” She further elaborated, saying, “With the creation of at least two jobs, increased footfall, and support for local supply chains, the development will contribute positively to the local economy and help ensure the long-term viability of this historically significant property.” According to the planning officers, neither the highways authority nor the conservation team raised any objections.
