Plans have been approved for the construction of over 80 new residences in a coastal village located in Cornwall. Specifically, Cornwall Council gave its approval to a proposal for 81 houses to be constructed in St Merryn, a village situated close to Padstow. These dwellings, with 45 designated as affordable, are slated for development on a 3.8-hectare (9.9-acre) parcel of land positioned south-east of St Merryn Park. Sue Walters, an applicant representing Situ8 planning consultancy, stated that the locality was in “absolute desperate need” for affordable homes. She further commented in a statement provided to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, “We believe that the proposal will significantly support the demand for homes for local people.” The designated construction site lies between St Merryn Park and Atlantic Bays, which are both residential and holiday developments. Features of the development will encompass a community building, footpaths for connectivity, and an attenuation pond. When the application was submitted, the HomeChoice housing register for St Merryn parish indicated a requirement for 69 homes for affordable accommodation. According to the proposal, the 45 affordable homes will comprise a blend of 70% for rent and 30% for sale. Stephen Rushworth, a Cornwall Council representative for Padstow, noted that 80% of individuals who provided comments on the council’s planning portal expressed support for the plans. He added, “The parish council has been 100% behind this plan.” Rushworth also stated, “It’s very welcome as most local people can’t afford the prices that houses sell for in St Merryn.” Post navigation Redevelopment Commences on Ripon’s Historic Spa Baths Epsom & Ewell Council Awarded Grant to Acquire Homes for Homelessness Support
