A planning application has been submitted for a multimillion-pound leisure facility and community hub situated in south Cumbria. Cumberland Council stated that the proposed structure in Millom is intended to enhance local health and increase visitor numbers in the town. This centre is one of four initiatives that form the Millom Town Deal, which successfully secured £20.6m from the UK Government’s Town’s Fund, along with an additional £8.7m in match funding. The authority expressed its hope that construction on the centre would commence in early 2025. Plans for the facility encompass a swimming pool, a sports hall, and fitness studios. David Savage, chair of the Millom Town Deal Board, remarked: “This long-awaited news will build confidence that the leisure complex is actively moving forward and will significantly contribute to this town’s offer as an attractive place to live, work and visit.”
