New proposals aim to revitalize two vacant spaces within a historic railway station, currently described as being in a “state of disrepair.” Northern has filed a planning application detailing the refurbishment of a former radiator showroom and an old dance studio located at Bingley railway station. This initiative is part of Northern’s broader £3.6m investment strategy, designed to optimize the utilization of its station properties and increase revenue. A decision on the application from Bradford Council is anticipated next month. According to Northern, it is necessary to stop the “deterioration” affecting these two units. The Local Democracy Reporting Service reports that the Grade II listed station has recently completed significant refurbishment work, which encompassed roof repairs and the replacement of rotted rafters and joists. The planning application states: “The submitted proposals form part of a wider scheme being undertaken by Northern Trains to repurpose existing redundant accommodation within station buildings throughout their network and to bring back into potential occupation for commercial use.” The application further indicated that the project’s goal is to create new revenue streams. It also noted that the structure containing these units was “in a state of disrepair”. The document continued: “The rooms, particularly the former dance studio, have suffered from significant damp ingress since becoming vacant.“These spaces are envisioned to be renovated into a shell ready for reuse, allowing prospective tenants the flexibility to customise the interiors to suit their business needs.” The application emphasized the critical need to stop the ongoing deterioration to prevent repairs from becoming financially unviable. A spokesperson for Northern confirmed that this work is included in a £3.6m investment targeting its station buildings, with the objective of drawing in additional tenants.
