Approximately 7,000 individuals attended a light and sound spectacle at Peterborough Cathedral, featuring large-scale art projections displayed directly onto the structure. The cathedral expressed gratitude to those who visited “Starlight by Luxmuralis” during the previous week, emphasizing that such events are “vital” for the continued operation of the edifice. It stated that the exhibition was the outcome of “countless hours of preparation and dedication” contributed by its staff and volunteers. Paul Stainton, the head of marketing and communications, remarked, “It costs four pounds per minute just to keep our beautiful cathedral open.” He continued, “We are thankful that so many people came to see it and enjoyed themselves so much. The cathedral is the main footfall driver in the city centre and we are pleased that our boost in footfall benefits the many other businesses. It’s fantastic that we can all work together for mutual benefit.” The event included both a complimentary outdoor display and a ticketed experience located within the building. For the current week, over 4,000 visitors are anticipated at the cathedral’s Christmas market, scheduled for Friday and Saturday. The market will feature more than 100 stalls and local businesses, according to the statement. Follow Peterborough news on BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram and X. Copyright 2024 BBC.
