The participation of Peter Andre as the main performer for London’s New Year’s Day Parade has been confirmed. Following a New Year’s Eve performance in Dubai, Andre is scheduled to arrive in the capital during the early morning of 1 January to perform along the two-mile (about 3km) route that traverses the West End. This complimentary event is set to commence at 12:00 GMT close to Green Park Station, proceeding to Parliament Square and passing through Piccadilly Circus, Regent Street, Trafalgar Square, and Whitehall. Andre expressed his sentiments, stating: “It’s such a beautiful honour.” The 51-year-old added, “Headlining such an incredible event, for an enormous global audience, is going to be such brilliant fun.” He further commented, “There’s people in the streets, we’ve got the live band on stage, it’s just going to be great.” Andre concluded, “It’s a real family event. It’s for everyone to enjoy and bring in the new year in a very positive way.” According to Joe Bone, the parade’s executive director, the event will feature just under 10,000 performers. Bone remarked, “This year is spectacular.” He continued, “We’ve packed the parade, with tip top talent, there’s something for everyone and of all ages.” He listed examples: “Pearly kings and queens, stunt riders, you name it.” Bone concluded by emphasizing, “We’ve got 28 nationalities represented, it couldn’t be more diverse. It’s a celebration, a giant party.” Sue Golding, the Pearly Queen of Silvertown, has been designated to lead the parade. Golding commented: “The New Year’s Day Parade to us is just one of those magical events that happens. We absolutely love it.” She further stated, “Keeping that history and that culture and that tradition going is so important to us all.” Additionally, the parade’s roster of participants encompasses 19 marching bands originating from the US, alongside various dance groups and cheerleaders. Performers representing the London boroughs are also slated to participate. Joji Hirota, a member of The London Taiko Drummers, indicated that their group would be the inaugural performers in the parade. Hirota expressed, “It’s our first time joining the event.” He added, “It’s very exciting. It’s so amazing to be opening the event.” Information regarding BBC Radio London’s best content is available on Sounds, and updates from BBC London can be followed on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
