The Perth Scorchers maintained their Women’s Big Bash League qualification prospects following a dramatic tie against the Sydney Sixers, marking the fourth tied match in the league’s 10-edition history. The Scorchers were dismissed for 126 runs in 19.2 overs, a performance significantly impacted by Australia all-rounder Ash Gardner’s 4-21 for the Sixers. The Sixers subsequently matched this total by the conclusion of their 20 overs, propelled by opener Ellyse Perry’s 67 runs from 53 balls. This parity led to a super over, which also concluded in a tie with both teams scoring 15 runs. As a result of the tied fixture, both teams earned one point, placing the Scorchers fourth in the standings and the Sixers in sixth. The top four teams are set to advance to the competition’s knockout stage. The Scorchers’ first innings saw a significant collapse, as they went from 95-1 to losing their final nine wickets for just 31 runs. Beth Mooney contributed 44 runs and New Zealand’s Brooke Halliday added 41 before the downturn. For the Sixers, leg-spinner Melie Kerr and seamer Courtney Sippel each claimed two wickets, complementing Gardner’s efforts. Additionally, 15-year-old all-rounder Caoimhe Bray dismissed Mooney by bowling her and achieved a remarkable direct-hit run out while fielding a ball off her own delivery. Ellyse Perry, representing Australia, served as the cornerstone of the Sixers’ batting effort; however, she received limited assistance, with no other batter surpassing 20 runs. Her international teammate, Alana King, was effective for the Scorchers, taking 3-21 with her leg-spin bowling. In the subsequent super over, Perry hit a four and a six off Daisy Edgar’s bowling. For the Scorchers, Mikayla Hinkley then scored 14 runs from four balls, enabling her team to equal the Sixers’ super over total, despite the early loss of Mooney on the first ball. In a separate match played on the same day, the Melbourne Renegades defeated the Hobart Hurricanes, thereby securing their advancement to the knockout rounds. The Renegades’ final fixture will determine their seeding and subsequent route to the final.
