Individuals receiving care at a North Yorkshire hospital have been relocated to alternative sites because of an absence of heating and hot water. Selby War Memorial Hospital reported that it was “experiencing problems” with a malfunctioning boiler on Friday, with engineers deployed to the site to rectify the situation. The York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust announced that it had additionally implemented the precautionary measure of temporarily shutting down its urgent treatment centre. A spokesperson stated: “We have robust plans in place to deal with disruption to services like this, and we are working closely with our staff to ensure we continue to provide safe care for our patients.” The trust indicated that certain outpatient appointments had been deferred but would be rescheduled with priority. Nevertheless, it advised all individuals with scheduled appointments to attend as planned, unless they receive communication for rearrangement. The spokesperson further commented: “While the building is safe, to ensure we can continue to provide safe care and comfort for our inpatients, we are safely relocating them and we are contacting families directly to let them know.” “We appreciate this may be frustrating for our patients affected and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
