A land train carrying passengers in Cornwall overturned, resulting in seven individuals, including three children, being transported to a hospital. Law enforcement officials responded to an incident at Tregoad Holiday Park, situated in St Martin, close to Looe, on Wednesday around 18:55 GMT. According to Looe Land Train, the land train’s carriage “tipped over,” causing injuries to several of its occupants. Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed that seven individuals were transported to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth for evaluation and care, despite earlier reports indicating that 10 people had been admitted. The Cornwall Air Ambulance service reported that one of the injured parties required air transport from the site to Derriford. Police officials stated: “None of the injuries are considered to be life-changing or life-threatening.” At the location of the incident, eleven individuals were released, having sustained either minor injuries or no injuries at all. Authorities are requesting that any witnesses who have not yet communicated with them, but who may have observed the collision or possess relevant information or dashcam footage, come forward to assist with investigations. The police force indicated that a Land Rover Defender pulling a carriage was involved in the occurrence. Officers reported that ambulance personnel, HM Coastguard, and the fire department also responded to the location. Looe town councillor Armand Toms commented that residents were “devastated,” yet the community had demonstrated a robust response. He added: “‘There are already offers of help from local residents saying, ‘If I can do anything I will and if you need anything please call me’.” He further remarked: “‘That’s the best thing about living in a small town, it’s the fact that people know each other, people care about each other.'” He described the land train as a prominent feature in the town and a “successful business.” On Facebook, Looe Land Train posted: “We also understand that none of these injuries are critical nor life-threatening.” The company stated that the cause of the incident is currently unknown and no other vehicles were implicated. They added: “‘As a family business we are devastated by tonight’s [Wednesday] accident and our thoughts are with all of those injured or impacted.'” The company affirmed: “‘We will be fully co-operating with any investigation by the authorities.'” It announced the cancellation of all subsequent land train events for the half term, which marks its concluding week of the 2024 season. It further stated: “‘In the coming days, we will be in contact directly with anyone who has reserved, in order to make a full refund.'” Comment has been sought from the holiday park.
