A ghost hunting organization has reported an “amazing” rise in its popularity as more individuals seek out the paranormal, with its membership expanding from 67 to nearly 1,000. The Manea and District Paranormal Investigators, based in Cambridgeshire, was established two years ago, but the group’s growth truly accelerated in February of this year. Organisers Alison Searle and Michael Amps stated they were “flabbergasted” by the extent of its success. “We welcome sceptics. We want actual proper proof that there is something after death, that there is something there,” Mr Amps said. Ms Searle, who identifies as a “medium,” first met Mr Amps on a ghost tour. The two shared an interest in the paranormal and subsequently formed their own investigations team. “We bumbled along for a bit but we said, ‘let’s just do it’,” Ms Searle recounted. She added, “We were shocked. We started with 67 in the original group and then a couple of months later we had 300, then 500 and 600. It just kept going and going. “People are searching [for] something tangible… it’s the not knowing and people want to find out if there is paranormal activity out there.”” One “exciting” incident documented by the group occurred during an investigation in Saffron Walden, Essex. In a cellar, they requested “a presence” to move a decorative Father Christmas figure that had remained in the room’s corner throughout the evening. They reported that as they were preparing to depart, the item “fell out of its box.” Speaking to BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, Mr Amps remarked, “Things like that send shivers down my spine. “We all love the hunt and trying to prove there is something there. At the end of the day, that’s why we do it.”” For updates on Cambridgeshire news, follow BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram, and X. Copyright 2024 BBC. All rights reserved.
