A section of motorway in Hampshire is slated for an overnight closure to facilitate routine maintenance. The M27’s eastbound carriageway, specifically between junction four (at the M3 interchange) and junction nine (for Whiteley), will be shut from 21:00 GMT until 06:00 on Tuesday. This represents the first of two scheduled closures and will allow for work to enhance sign visibility and upgrade technology, as stated by National Highways. The work forms part of a larger initiative to install a low-noise surface on the motorway between junctions five and seven. An additional overnight closure on the M27 is also planned for the following week. The westbound carriageway will be closed between junction eight (for Bursledon) and junction four (up to the M3) from 21:00 to 06:00, spanning from 12-14 November. Diversion routes will be implemented for both closures. National Highways indicated that the new surface has already been laid along the outside lanes of the eastbound carriageway. The project involved overlaying the M27’s concrete layer with 180mm of low-noise surface asphalt. The thickness of this new layer necessitated alterations to the existing barrier systems, drainage, and structures, National Highways confirmed.
