Deputy Lyndsay Feltham announced that a government initiative has distributed over 85,000 packs of complimentary period products. This program was initially introduced in September 2022, aiming to assist individuals facing challenges due to increasing living expenses. Subsequent to public input, an updated version of the scheme was introduced in October, with the goal of ensuring continued easy access to period products for islanders. Deputy Feltham expressed satisfaction in revealing that the government is now providing reusable period products, available at four distinct locations. These reusable items, including menstrual cups and period pants, are accessible at Brooke Under 21’s, the GUM clinic, and Le Bas Centre in St Helier, as well as The Bridge in St Saviour. Feltham stated: “My understanding is that the uptake of those reusable products has been incredibly positive. “I’m pleased to say not only is it more environmentally friendly, it’s also good value for money as products can be reused. “We are in the process of transitioning from a project to a business as usual and rolling out the continuation.” She further mentioned that products are now stocked in additional public supermarkets and that “a number of issues in public toilets” have been addressed.
