A woman alleging rape by Greggory Odjig, an actor known for the TV series Outlander, informed a jury that she discovered her leggings inside a suitcase upon regaining consciousness at an aparthotel suite, following a period where she had “slipped into a state of unconsciousness.” The Canadian performer stands accused of sexually assaulting the 34-year-old actress at the Premier Suites Plus serviced apartments, situated on Bath Street in Glasgow, during May 2021. Prosecutors contend that the woman was in an intoxicated state, either asleep or unconscious, and therefore unable to provide consent when Mr. Odjig, aged 47, reportedly removed her lower garments and committed the act. Mr. Odjig, recognized for his portrayal of Satehoronies in the fourth season of Outlander, refutes the charges of raping the woman and causing her injury through assault. The woman, who resides in Perthshire, stated that Mr. Odjig had been a friend for several years. She testified before the High Court in Stirling that she had visited his suite following a day spent in Edinburgh, accompanied by two of her relatives and a contingent of actors and make-up artists engaged in filming activities in Scotland. She recounted encountering another Canadian actor, Glenn Gould, at a supermarket located close to the aparthotel. She informed the jury that she ultimately purchased two bottles of Cava, and Mr. Odjig extended an invitation to Mr. Gould to join them in his two-bedroom apartment for conversation. She stated that Mr. Gould consumed three or four cans of Guinness, and they engaged in “hours of enjoyable conversation” around a table, discussing scripts and “moving abroad.” Mr. Odjig, she noted, remained seated on a windowsill and did not participate in the discussion. The woman informed prosecutor Kath Harper KC that she subsequently lost consciousness after consuming one-and-a-half glasses of the Spanish sparkling wine. She recounted: “I poured the first glass and Gregg poured the second glass and after the second glass I slipped into a state of unconsciousness.“He was adamant he was pouring my drink.“I got halfway through the glass.“My eyesight went and my head banged off the table and I was slipping into unconsciousness and didn’t know what was happening.” She stated that Mr. Odjig escorted her to the bathroom, where she “projectile vomited.” The woman testified to the court: “I felt like I’d been poisoned.” Mr. Odjig assisted her into a bed, and she again slipped into a state of unconsciousness, she further explained. She reported later waking to the sound of shouting and screaming. Both Mr. Odjig and Mr. Gould were present in the room, engaged in an argument, with Mr. Odjig dressed in a top and boxers. She was wearing her pants, but a pair of gym leggings she had previously worn were located in a suitcase. She stated: “Gregg and Glenn were about 12ft away from me. There was shouting going on and it was very heated. Gregg was throwing punches at Glenn.” She recounted intervening between the two men, at which moment Odjig struck her “right in the head.” She indicated that someone suggested she proceed to the apartment of another individual from the Canadian group, where law enforcement was summoned. She was subsequently transported to a police station, then to a hospital for a CT scan, and ultimately to a clinic for sample collection. She acknowledged having previously informed the police in a statement that she might have consumed an entire bottle of Cava, rather than merely one-and-a-half glasses. Donald Findlay KC, representing Mr. Odjig, proposed to her that Mr. Odjig had inadvertently struck her on the head amidst an ongoing incident between the two men. He asserted that another witness’s statement corroborated this account. The woman responded: “I disagree with what you are saying.” The proceedings, presided over by judge Lady Poole, are scheduled to resume on Tuesday with additional cross-examination of the alleged victim by Mr. Findlay.
